The Top 5 Most Popular Wellness Posts of 2015

2015 was a year of big strides in our understanding of health and nutrition.

Changes to the national Dietary Guidelines were announced, reversing decades of poor advice on cholesterol.

Functional medicine went mainstream with the prestigious Cleveland Clinic opening a new Functional Medicine Center. Dr. Mark Hyman MD was named as Director.

Balance is the new achievement. Stress and sugar are out. Sleep, sun, strength and serotonin are in.

The Wellness Repair website was also created in 2015. My goal is to find the MD’s, PhD’s, researchers and practitioners getting the most positive results and to summarize their findings in a way that is actionable.

I went back through the stats from this year to find the articles of greatest interest. Here are the top 5 most popular Wellness posts of 2015. Counting down…

#5 Why Cholesterol Is Not Bad

The 2015 Dietary Guidelines Committee revised the national standard. As of 2015, they say, “Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.”  You are now free to move about the cabin… and eat egg yokes.

In this post, I present the latest research that shows blocked arteries are not caused by cholesterol after all, but instead are caused by oxidized lipoproteins and inflammation.  Lowering cholesterol doesn’t correct the source of the problem. A diet high in antioxidants (vegetables and fruits) and low in carbohydrates will reduce factors of oxidation and inflammation.

In addition, out of 20,000 patients, only four or five actually needed a statin drug and that was required to treat familial hypercholesterolemia. MDs, PhDs and researchers are now saying statin drugs should only be used as a last resort for very rare conditions.

#4 The most contagious “gateway drug” I’ve found for weight loss

I interact with a lot of people about health and weight loss. A definite pattern has emerged as far as what “gateway drug” seems most effective at getting them started on a path to health.

Far and away, the quickest win I’ve encountered for weight loss has been skipping breakfast – but having coffee or tea with grass fed butter and MCT oil instead. It’s easy. You only have to commit to a cup of coffee or tea. It tastes surprisingly delicious and your clothes start to fit better within a few days. It just works!

This post is straight to the point with just the info you need to get started.

#3 Product Labelling 101

Understanding product labels is one of the greatest hurdles for most folks. It doesn’t help when food manufacturers bend the truth to increase sales.  It doesn’t take long to learn that ‘healthy’ on a label usually means the opposite.

I put together a quick primer to shortcut the learning process for you and save you a bunch of money. The post walks you though 16 common labels and explains what the numbers on produce mean.

#2 Why I Drink Bulletproof Coffee

Usually, it takes 24-28 hours of extremely low carbohydrate consumption (less than 50g) to get into mild ketosis (fat burning mode). The transition is uncomfortable, earning the nickname “keto flu”.

However, it is possible to skip the discomfort and trigger ketones with MCT oil. Pure C8 works the fastest. I blend pure C8 with butter, in coffee, and then have the mixture in place of breakfast. The result is easy fat burning without feeling hungry.

This post contains the recipe.

#1 How to eliminate food cravings

No one says, “To get off crack cocaine, you just need to have enough willpower.”  No one has that much willpower. And yet, some foods trigger the exact same chemicals that make cocaine or heroine addictive.

I learned how to eliminate food cravings, without willpower, and it only takes about 2-3 weeks.

In this post, I detail how I automate healthy eating and give 10 strategies to eliminate food cravings.
